CASE MANAGEMENT & EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT FOR ELIGIBLE FAMILIES
RI Works
RI Works is a financial and employment assistance program for parents and families with little to no income who have children high school age or younger. Through PVD CAP’s Case Management team, eligible families referred through the Rhode Island Department of Human Services receive support designed to help them move toward employment, stability, and self-sufficiency.
REFERRAL REQUIRED
RI Works referrals come through the Rhode Island Department of Human Services (DHS). This program is not open for direct public enrollment through PVD CAP. If you are interested in applying for RI Works, please visit DHS for current Eligibility and application information.
What is RI Works?
RI Works provides individualized and family supportive services, job readiness preparation, employment or vocational training, and support services that help families work toward long-term stability. The program is designed to help parents and caregivers build an employment plan, access supportive resources, and take steps toward permanent, full-time employment.
RI Works may also connect eligible families with support such as childcare, transportation, educational services, and employment retention services
PVD CAP's Role in RI Works
PVD CAP provides case management support for eligible RI Works participants referred through DHS. Our case managers work with families to understand their goals, identify barriers, and connect them with services that support employment readiness, household stability, and self-sufficiency.
Support may include:
- Individualized case management
- Goal setting and action planning
- Supportive service referrals
- Job readiness guidance
- Vocational training connections
- Employment services
- Help navigating barriers to work or education
- Ongoing support as needs change
RI Works Program Components

Supportive Services
Helping families connect with resources that may support household stability and reduce barriers to employment.
Teen & Family Development
Supporting families as they work toward educational, employment, and household goals
Vocational Training
Helping eligible participants connect with training opportunities that support career readiness and employment goals.
Employment Services
Supporting job readiness, employment planning, job search activities, and long-term employment stability.
Who May Be Eligible?
RI Works may support:
• Parents and families with little to no income.
• Families with children high school age or younger.
• Kinship guardians, such as grandparents raising grandchildren they are legally responsible for.
• Eligible families working toward employment, training, education, and household stability.
Eligibility and application decisions are managed by the Rhode Island Department of Human Services.

Creating a path forward.
DHS case workers work with parents to develop an employment action plan that outlines the steps they need to take to increase success in the job market. Depending on the age of the youngest child, single parents may be required to dedicate 20 to 30 hours per week to employment searches, job readiness training, or further education.
PVD CAP supports referred participants as they work toward the goals outlined in their plan and connect with services that can help them make progress.
